Is Reddit Down? Reddit Recovers from Major Outage.
On Wednesday afternoon, Reddit users were thrown into a digital scramble as the popular social forum experienced a significant outage. Reports of service disruptions began surfacing around 4 pm ET, with users across the globe encountering issues with Reddit's app and website.
According to Down Detector, a website that monitors online service outages, more than 150,000 reports flooded in during the peak of the disruption. Users trying to access Reddit were greeted with a frustrating error message: “We have encountered an error. Please try again later.”
Reddit quickly acknowledged the problem, attributing it to "degraded performance" and promising that a fix was on the way. By 4:45 pm ET, Reddit confirmed that they had implemented a solution and were actively monitoring the situation to ensure stability.
Although the specific cause of the outage was not detailed, Reddit’s swift response aimed to restore normal service as soon as possible. This recent disruption echoes a similar widespread outage the platform faced last April.
The San Francisco-based company, known for hosting one of the most trafficked social media platforms worldwide, boasts over 267 million weekly active users. In response to the outage, Reddit’s shares saw a nearly 5% dip during Wednesday trading, with a slight decline noted after the closing bell.
Reddit has not yet responded to requests for further details on the cause of the outage, but users can now return to their regular browsing with the site back online.
